Pool shape

Rounded rectangle

The rectangle, softened — friendlier without losing swim length

A rounded rectangle keeps almost all of the rectangle's swimmable water but rounds the corners into generous fillets. The result reads softer in a garden, is gentler on swimmers, and the corners no longer trap debris the way sharp ones do. It's the shape we default to in the designer.

Strengths

  • Nearly the rectangle's swim length, softer look
  • Rounded corners circulate water better and trap less debris
  • Comfortable with both modern and traditional houses
  • Still easy to cover and clean

Trade-offs

  • Slightly less floor area than a true rectangle at the same size
  • Corner radii need matching coping cuts
  • Automatic covers need a rectangular housing anyway
