Choose class over size
In a small garden the pool can't hide, so make it deliberate: deck-level edge, a strong finish color, one great light. A 4 × 2.5 m deck-level plunge pool in anthracite reads as a design object; the same water in a raised liner pool reads as a compromise. Small pools succeed on quality per square metre.
Shapes that earn their corner
Compact rounded rectangles (4 × 2.5 to 6 × 3) keep a usable swim line. Rounds (3–4.5 m) tuck into corners and courtyards and feel social. Skip complex shapes below ~18 m² — zoning needs space to zone.
Make small feel big
Run the deck material to the pool edge (deck-level pools shine here), keep one long sightline over the water, and light it warmly at night. Uniform depth (~1.3 m) maximizes usable water. A counter-current unit turns 5 m of water into an infinite lap lane if you swim seriously.

- Are small pools cheaper to run?
- Dramatically. Half the volume is half the heat, chemicals and cover — small pools are the ones that stay warm all season.
- Can I swim laps in a small pool?
- With a counter-current jet, yes — you swim in place. Without one, 5–6 m supports play and cooling, not training.
